Is your next vacation with the tots packed with long drives, charming old towns, and beautiful museums? Congratulations! You’re about to make a classic blunder, warns Shunali Khullar Shroff

Am stating the obvious here but choosing a child-friendly destination is the sine qua non of a good family holiday. Isn’t this a no-brainer? Wouldn’t you be an absolutely daft parent if you need to be taught that amusement parks and zoos are your best and most reliable hope of seeing smiles on your children’s faces?

Turns out, some of us are not born wise nor do we welcome wisdom when it is thrust upon us. Yours truly is one such example. Something needs to be said about a parent whose quest to explore overpowers the common sense usually found in anybody old enough to bear children.

From my 11.9 years as a parent, here is a list of dos and don’ts I urge you to consider if you want to be generally liked by your children and not assigned to a retirement home:
